The perennial senatorial follower, Dianne Feinstein has decided to sponsor worthless legislation signaling one thing; she is scared to death Elizabeth Emken will be taking her down despite her campaign manager’s bluster about Elizabeth not being a worthy opponent.
Even as more excuses emerge regarding the 79 year-old senator’s attempt to impose her will upon California and the United Sates for another six years.
So Dianne finally plays it safe with a sure thing, sponsoring S.3517 – Panama-Pacific International Exposition and Panama Canal Commemorative Coins Act. Of course Barbara Boxer was the only co sponsor of this proposed legislation
But wait, has the senior senator from CA grown a bit fuzzy on the facts?
Treaties worked out between Panama and the U.S. in 1977 by then presidents Jimmy Carter and Omar Torrijos, resulted in the shutting down of the U.S. military apparatus and the controversial “reflagging” of the canal from the United States to Panama.
The move by President Carter to hand back the canal was greatly criticized by sections of the American Public and by the Republican Party as well. They argued that a very important strategic asset of the United States was being handed over to a government that was despotic and necessarily not pro-American.
According to Thomas.gov, on August 2, 2012 the legislation was referred to Senate committee.
Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
A safe bet on this one would be to figure it will be tossed in the dust bin of history along with other unneeded legislation.
